Our Ultimate Checklist: Getting Your Car Summer Road-Trip Ready
Spring is here, and summer holidays are just around the corner. Before you load up the car for a well-deserved road trip, it’s crucial to make sure your vehicle is reliable enough for the journey. Breaking down hundreds of kilometres from home is a sure way to ruin a holiday.
Use this checklist to get your car summer-ready and book a pre-trip inspection at our Sunshine North workshop for peace of mind.
1. Check Your Air Conditioning
The last thing you want is for your A/C to start blowing warm air halfway to your destination. We recommend an air conditioning service to check refrigerant levels and ensure the compressor is working efficiently before the summer heat really kicks in.
2. Inspect the Cooling System
Long drives in hot weather put immense strain on your engine’s cooling system. We’ll check your radiator, coolant levels, hoses, and thermostat to prevent the number one cause of summer breakdowns: overheating.
3. Test Your Battery
Hot weather can be just as tough on a car battery as the cold. A battery on its last legs is more likely to fail after a long drive. A quick battery test can tell you if it’s time for a replacement.
4. Examine Your Tyres
Properly inflated tyres in good condition are essential for safety and fuel efficiency. Check your tyre pressure (including the spare!) and look for any signs of wear or damage. We can check your tread depth and perform a wheel alignment for optimal performance.
5. Don’t Forget a General Service
A pre-trip oil and filter change is one of the best ways to ensure your engine is properly lubricated for a long journey. A general service will also identify any other potential issues before they become a major problem.
