Why is my car using so much fuel all of a sudden? A sudden drop in fuel economy is often caused by dirty fuel injectors, a clogged air or fuel filter, or a faulty oxygen sensor. When the fuel system is restricted, the engine has to work much harder to produce the same amount of power, burning more fuel in the process.
How often should I change my fuel filter? It depends on your vehicle, but generally, fuel filters should be replaced every 40,000 to 80,000 kilometers. Check your logbook for the manufacturer’s specific recommendation, or ask us to check it during your next routine service.
Can a bad fuel pump cause my car not to start? Yes. If the fuel pump fails completely, no fuel will reach the engine. The car’s starter motor will crank the engine over, but it will never actually fire up and run.
Is it bad to drive with the fuel light on? Yes. The fuel pump sits inside your petrol tank and relies on the surrounding fuel to keep it cool and lubricated. Regularly driving on an empty tank causes the pump to overheat, drastically shortening its lifespan. It can also suck dirt from the bottom of the tank directly into your fuel filter.
